So where do you begin? You need to start marketing your book before you’ve even finished it and that is very important to remember.
Locate your readers before the book is finished
When you are ready to shout from the mountaintop that your book is finally finished, it would be great to know that there are people around to hear you. Be creative, round up all of your Facebook friends, Twitter Followers and anyone else you can think of and let them know about your book and ask them to pass it on. Get involved in great social book sites like Goodreads and LibraryThing. Also announce your new book on any niche sites you’ve been following already, like we’ve discussed in the past.
Create your brand
What is a book’s brand? The author. So you are your brand and you need to think about how you want others to view you. You need to let your potential readers meet you and get to know you. Since a brand is a very important component to any marketing campaign you need to decide how you want people to see you and then work at conveying that message. You will need to make sure you are putting your best foot forward at all times and continually groom yourself for the part.
What is your message
Marketing is all about getting your message across to people and making sure they hear it as well as believe it. With this in mind, you need to think carefully about what you want that message to be and how you will say it. After this is done, get the word out as often as you can but keep in mind no one likes a commercial. So think about how you would want to be informed of something as great as your book, then let others know in the same manner.
Communicate with your readers
Once your book is released, there is no time to rest you need to keep the marketing ball rolling. Communicate frequently with your readers, and potential readers. Marketing your book is not a one shot deal, you don’t just announce the book’s arrival and then wait for the sales to come rolling in. You need to get out there and be constantly involved.
Talk to your readers about whatever they want. Talk about the book, the genre or you the author. Be engaging and informative. You will be surprised to see how many of your readers want to learn more about, not only the book but about you. They are your new friends treat them that way, and these considerate actions will go a long way toward marketing your brand.
